Rain frequenciesAt the end of 2003, in order to get an overview of the rain frequency in Denmark, EXPO-NET ordered a statistical report from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), showing the average number of days per year in Denmark with a daily rainfall of at least 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 40 mm.
The calculation is done on daily rainfall from 74-96 rainfall stations every day from Jutland/the islands, except Bornholm. The number of stations varied slightly from week to week and from year to year, but on average 88 stations per day were used during the 15 year period 1988-2002.
The statistics show the average number of days per year is a given “approximate average area in Denmark”, based on the rainfall over the last 15 years (1988-2002), that rainfall can be expected within the specified ranges.
